Air Purifying Plants
Plants popularly called "air-purifying", many of them from NASA's 1989 Clean Air Study. At normal room scale their effect on indoor air is negligible, but they are easy-going and look great.

About this collection
What to know before you choose
The "air-purifying" label comes from NASA's 1989 Clean Air Study, which measured how much of a few chemicals, such as formaldehyde and benzene, plants removed inside small sealed chambers. A home is not a sealed chamber: a 2019 review of those experiments (Cummings & Waring) estimated you would need 10 to 1,000 plants per square metre to match what normal ventilation already does.
So at room scale, a few houseplants have a negligible effect on indoor air; opening a window or running an extractor fan does far more. The plants here are still worth growing for how they look, and many of them are rated beginner in their care profiles.
How we picked
Plants whose profiles carry the popular "air-purifying" label. It is a label, not a measurement of what the plant does in your home.
