The houseplant basics
Most houseplants need the same few things to get going. Pick what you don't have yet, then add it all to your Amazon cart in one go.
The basics
What most houseplants need to get started.
A pot with a drainage hole, the next size up when it is time to repot.
A ready-made indoor potting mix for repotting.
A long spout reaches the soil under the leaves, so you can water until it runs from the drainage hole.
Shows how wet the soil is at root level, so you water when it is actually needed.
Liquid houseplant food to use during the growing season.
Nice to have
Useful later, or for dark rooms and bigger collections.
A full-spectrum light that clamps to a shelf or desk to top up light in a dim spot.
Small, sharp snips for clean cuts when trimming or taking cuttings.
A fine-mist spray bottle for misting plants that take in water through their leaves or like humid air.
The basics follow common houseplant care advice: OSU Extension, MU Extension, RHS.
