Plant Care Club is a free, independent, plain-language houseplant care site. This page explains who writes it, how we put articles together, how products and sponsored content are handled, and how to tell us about a mistake.

Who writes Plant Care Club

Plant profiles, care guides, journal articles and Q&A answers are written by the Plant Care Club editorial team. They are published under the Plant Care Club name rather than individual bylines.

The Q&A section is editorial: its questions are answered by the Plant Care Club editors. Signed-in readers can ask questions and add their own answers, which are shown with the reader's name.

How we research and write

Our care advice is general guidance for typical indoor conditions, written in plain language. Where an article relies on outside information, we link to the source we used, such as a university extension service, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) or the ASPCA. Not every page cites sources yet.

Plants respond to light, temperature, pot and season, so treat watering intervals and amounts as starting points and adjust them to what your plant shows you.

Pet safety labels

Our "toxic" and "non-toxic" labels for cats and dogs follow the ASPCA Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants list. A few plants are not on that list; for those we say so, or refer to another published source. A "non-toxic" label is not a guarantee of safety. If your pet eats a plant and seems unwell, contact your vet.

How we choose products

Product suggestions are picked to fit the care advice on the page, for example a pot with a drainage hole for a plant that dislikes wet roots. We do not test products hands-on: our product guides are based on product specifications and general care needs. Affiliate commission never decides what we recommend. Read more in our affiliate disclosure.

Sponsored content and advertising

We accept advertising from brands that fit the site. Sponsored content is always labelled "Sponsored" and kept separate from our editorial content.
