About this collection
What to know before you choose
No plant is truly unkillable, but some forgive a lot more than others. The plants here are all rated beginner in their care profiles, and most of them store water in thick leaves, stems or roots, so a missed watering or two does them little harm.
That same trait makes them vulnerable to the one mistake they do not forgive: soil that stays wet. Water only once the soil has dried out, use a pot with a drainage hole, and give them as much light as you can; even the tough ones grow better and stay more compact in good light. If you travel often, this is the shortlist to start from.
How we picked
Plants rated beginner in their care profiles that need little water or are listed as drought-tolerant (money tree and umbrella plant, with medium water needs, are the exceptions).
