About this collection
What to know before you choose
Most houseplants are grown for their leaves, but the plants here can also flower indoors. How reliably they do so varies a lot. African violets and anthuriums can bloom for much of the year in good light. Christmas cactus needs long nights and cooler temperatures in autumn to set its buds. Some foliage plants, such as snake plant and cast iron plant, flower only rarely indoors.
The common thread is light: a plant that will not flower often needs a brighter spot. Each plant profile has bloom notes that say when to expect flowers and what the plant needs to produce them.
